You may find that the modern look of Venetian blinds is just what the designer had in mind but take care that you do not go overboard and have your room looking institutional rather than modern.

  If you’re going for an  ultra modern look  then brightly colored roll down shades might provide just the right accent for the vinyl or plastic looking furniture associated with this particular look. Venetian blinds blend well with the ultra modern look particularly if you go with some sort of interesting veneer for the blinds that will properly offset the attitude of the room. Good examples of this would be faux leather or colors representing a by gone era such as bright orange or brown.

Of course appearance isn’t everything practicality should play an important role in the decisions you are making as well. For instance, rice paper window treatments aren’t the best idea for bedroom windows as they do very little to keep the light out.

There is really no reason other than a complete and total lack of imagination to have drab window dressings in this day and age. Roll down shades and Venetian blinds can be found in any number of styles and designs that are suitable for almost any decor. You can even purchase them in nursery colors if you are so inclined. Leather Venetian blinds offer a creative touch to libraries or home offices and window shades can be purchased to compliment nearly any dcor or just to identify a particular hobby or passion. Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is that today’s window coverings are more affordable than ever before while allowing for a great deal of versatility and creativity.

Around the world and throughout history there are many who worship the sun. The truth remains however, that not everyone shares the same affinity for the sun as those who would bask in the warmth of the sun seeking that golden glow that only summertime can bring. Others simply do not want that warm glow coming into their homes. 

Whatever the reason that some people need darkness within their homes, there is some great news when it comes to  window coverings that can block out the sun.

Blackout curtains are excellent tools for blocking the rays of the sun and preventing them from entering your home through your windows. Some people refer to these window coverings as brightness diffusers or light screens. Curtains are typically the most commonly considered items in the market when it comes to an ability to almost completely blackout the sun that is attempting to find its way into your home. The curtains that are most effective for this purpose are those that are made of thick and heavy materials.

Curtains, however, are not the only window coverings that are good for blocking out the sun’s unwanted rays. Blinds  are another great source for blocking out unwanted light though arguably not as efficient at this task as curtains. Blinds can be found in either horizontal varieties or vertical and are can be adjusted in order to vary the amount of light that is allowed to ‘filter’ through. Blinds are an excellent choice for many however, because they can be adjusted and this allows light in when wanted and blocks it out when necessary or desired.

As more consumers are becoming aware of blackout blinds that are in the market, the demand for these products is growing. These blinds have a sturdy fabric attached to them that blocks the light. If this is a little too much lighter filtering for your taste, there are other blinds that are known as dim-out blinds that may be more to your liking. These blinds may not block out all the light from the sun but they do manage to filter a good deal of the sun that would escape through the slats in traditional window blinds. The best news about these blinds perhaps is that they come in a wide array of materials and colors from which to choose.

Shades for many are considered a thing of the past. Let me tell you that they are indeed alive and well in today’s marketplace and are a wonderful tool for blocking out the unwanted light of day. Shades also allow for a wide variety of decor and design options, which make them a popular choice among consumers.

Of course if the options above are not suitable for your needs there is always the possibility of window shutters. You will find that shutters can be made in many different materials though the most common (and easily customizable) is wood.

While  blackout window coverings  are great to have around the house, you should also realize that there are likely to be times when you will want some light of day to find its way into your home.  Vertical blinds are at home in tall buildings, apartment buildings, older homes, and designer homes. These window blinds are best for windows that are wider than tall, but they also are a good fit for windows that are very tall. Vertical blinds also can add height to a window space.

Wide windows are difficult to dress with regular roller shades because when you get beyond a certain width, about 72 inches, you need to add a seam, support, or multiple shades to cover the width and avoid sagging. By using vertical blinds on those same wide windows, any sagging problem is eliminated, and the window will have added height from the window blinds extending above the window frame. Vertical blinds on windows are drawn to one side, and if mounted outside the frame, they allow full window visibility, and allow a complete view out the entire window. They are best for window walls, allowing the opening to be used.

Tall windows can be difficult to put regular window blinds in, because of the height and amount of slats that would be rolled up or down. Much better and easier to use are the vertical blinds. These blinds can add some width to the window frame if mounted outside, and the blind vanes would be drawn to one side. Vertical blinds provide the best privacy and light control on large or tall windows also.

In tall buildings, many architectural styles use huge windows, even walls that are glass. Vertical blinds are really the only proper solution when selecting window blinds, and with their straight lines add more features to what could be plain architecture. One problem may be the length of vanes, and there can be some side buckling on extra long vanes when lightweight materials are used, like vinyl. This can be overcome by using heavier materials, and fabric coverings. For extra long situations, fabric covered vertical blinds are best because they have more give and would not buckle.

Any time you have extra wide, or extra long vertical blinds, you are dealing with more size and more weight. Motorization is an answer to those potential problems. Mechanisms work easily and they operate smoothly. All motorization and pull systems and hanging parts are hidden behind a matching top head rail valance. With non-motorized vertical blinds, the operation of opening and closing and adjustments is done with a small wand hung to one side of the head rail.

Window blinds are wonderful for controlling light. By adjusting the angle of the vanes, you can allow full daylight into the room, close it off completely, or stop somewhere in between. You can bounce the lighting off nearby walls for a little multiplication of light in the room. For privacy, many of the adjustments provide plenty of privacy, and you do not have to have the blinds totally closed. Vertical blinds work better with side opening windows, and heavier blinds are less likely to blow around in the wind.

For darkening a room, the vertical blinds are good because they allow less light in between slats, or vanes, and it does not reflect off ceilings or floor coverings. This type of blind is good for room darkening, and will help insulate a room. If you have fabric covered blinds, they are the best at insulating, and wood blinds are also very dense and provide similar insulation effects when closed.

Vertical blinds are easy to clean, and do not collect dust like horizontal blinds would catch. Used in tall buildings, they take less time to keep dust free and clean. Overall, vertical blinds are at home in tall buildings, and anywhere window size or dimensions might be an issue.

Take some time and consider what you need to know when you are thinking about getting shades or blinds based on how powerfully they can help your home in terms of temperature.

The first thing that you will need to keep in mind when you are considering how cool or warm your room is is the sunlight. For instance, when the sun starts pouring through the window, you can bet that the room is going to get a lot hotter, fairly quickly! With that in mind, you should think about the fact that closing the shutters and blinds will give the room some shade, cooling it down almost instantly. When you are interested in using shutters, shades or blinds to keep your home warmer, take some time to consider using materials like dark wood, or even plastic blinds with a darker finish. This will tend to absorb the light rather than reflect it.

Take some time and really consider what your options are going to be when you are thinking about shades and blinds for your home. There is a lot to be said for the right look, but don’t underestimate their ability to control your home’s temperature, either!

Bamboo blinds are blinds that are created out of bamboo stems that have been cut into sticks and mounted horizontally.  They are available in a number of styles and colors.  Fold up styles are a favorite for many home owners, as well as the traditional roll up styles.  Bamboo can be stained a variety of colors, and even dyed various colors on each blind.  This versatility makes a bamboo window blind a great choice for any room.

The Bamboo plant is considered to be a lucky addition to homes in many cultures.   Since they are also durable and hold up under numerous weather conditions, choosing bamboo for your home today will not only bring good luck to your and your home, but will save energy and money and look great! When it comes to installing bamboo blinds, the first thing you need to establish is whether they are inside  or outside mounted blinds.  Let’s take a look at installing an Outside Mounted blind.  Begin by holding up the blind along with the brackets that they will rest on.  You will need a buddy to help with this.  Use a pencil to mark the placement of the brackets.  This is the one step that many manufacturers fail to include, but can save you time and headaches in the process.

Go ahead and install the brackets according to your markings.  Put the head rail into place and snap the hinged coverings closed.  Continue the installation as per the manufaturers instructions, adding the valance at the top.

If you have inside mounted blinds, you will need to instally the brackets onto the inside wall of your window frame.  Add the valence clips to the top of your blind, then slip it into place in the brackets.  Follow the manufacturers instructions if a tilt changer is included.  Snap the valence blind into place, and try out your blind!

 Your beautiful Bamboo blinds are now ready to enjoy!  As for cleaning and care, a damp cloth usually does the trick, or if they are in need of a tougher clean, fill a bathtub with warm water and add a good oil soap.  Remove the blindsand roll them up.  Put them in the water and swish them around for a few minutes.  Leave them alone for 30 minutes and swish again.  Rinse in warm water two or three time.  Hang them outside over a fence or such till they are completely dry.  A nice sunny day will do very well.  Re-install and voila’!  You have beautiful ‘new’ blinds to spark up your room!

Discount window blinds are widely available on the Internet and also offline at furniture stores and dcor outlets. Of course the price of window coverings greatly varies depending on where you buy them.

Probably the best place to buy inexpensive window shades is in your local Chinatown. This especially true if you are looking for blinds made of rice paper. These transparent types of blinds come in just about every color of the rainbow. You can also buy rice paper blinds that have been hand painted or decorated with symbols or motifs. Buying blinds in an ethnic market is usually a lot cheaper than trying to buy them in a specialty boutique. You can also find these types of rice paper blinds for sale on the Internet. They are a mainstay of almost every type of discount window blinds outlet.

 
You can also buy window shades made out of specialty paper that is embedded with glitter or threads. Once again your best bet for finding these is in China Town or in a Japanese paper store. They are much more expensive in the retail chain markets. You can also find these types of window shades on the Internet in online specialty Japanese paper boutiques or on any of the big auction sites.

It is hard to find Venetian blinds that are really cheap so if you want discount window blinds you might have to shop for these at antique stores, second hand stores or at content sales. Of course it will be mainly the big, bulky corporate looking Venetian blinds with large plastic slats that will mainly be found at this type of sale. Another drawback of buying used Venetian blinds is that you don’t exactly have a choice of dimensions. Also a lot of them hang crooked and are quite dirty. No matter how stylish your Venetian blinds are they are not beautiful if they don’t work properly and trying to fix broken used ones can be a real hassle. You can also buy used, new and discount Venetian blinds on the big auction sites as well.

Fortunately the newer, lighter aluminum blinds are often offered up for sale at discount window covering outlets. If you can find these at a bargain they are a good deal because they are light, easy to clean and look just right with some of the more modern styles of interior decor. Anodized aluminum blinds also tend to harbor less dirt and dust. Sometimes you can only find these discount window coverings in off beat or undesirable shades. If this is the case remember that you can always take them home and spray paint them another color. However painting Venetian blinds can be a lot of work so make sure they are cheap enough to be worth your trouble!

Manufacturers are now creating Venetian blinds in all kinds of interesting colors and textures by painting, coating or anodizing the slats. The dullest Venetian blinds that you could buy would be the nineties style black kind with narrow slats or the seventies style heavy cream colored ones with wide slats. However these are always the styles that seem to be on sale!

If you’re looking for a simple, inexpensive way in which you can transform the look of a room, you really need to look no further than your window coverings. Don’t put the same old tired curtains that everyone else in your neighborhood has; go for something bold and daring that will add pizzazz to your home. Put your imagination into overdrive and see what inspired creations will find their way to your windows.

A very nifty way to create your own window coverings is by using a wrought iron curtain rod, pinch clips, and either hemmed or un-hemmed fabric. The pinch clips grip the fabric and allow you to hang pretty much any fabric you choose from your window. Sheers and plain fabric with gothic styled wrought iron are currently popular choices. You can also elect to use sheets from the discount store for this particular look. They will billow nicely for a nice romantic look that is perfect for bedrooms. You might also elect to use ribbons or ties in order to enhance the overall look of your window coverings.

You can also purchase window coverings that simply slide along the rod without any clips. These curtains can be found in many different designs and fabrics. Some of them simply offer loops or tabs at the top that allow you to slide the rod through the curtain. You can also quite easily make your own by adding ribbons or tabs to the top and securing them with decorative buttons.

If you are looking for something trendy and popular consider a curtain or window covering that is made with specialty paper rather than fabric. These hand made or rice paper designs allow for some rather interesting blinds that are semi transparent and quite adaptable to most decors. While these are quite expensive to purchase they are also deceptively easy to make. You will need to find a store that sells hand-made paper though.

You’ll want to spend some time looking at the many papers they have and selecting the one that you feel will suit your style and decor the best. Once you’ve purchased the paper you will need to cut it to the size of your window. Now that you’ve accomplished this you will place the paper on wire and attach it with binder clips. This type of window covering works best in rooms where you’d like light to stream in but maintain a need for privacy.

Hand-painted Venetian blinds are another way to add a special touch to your decor. This type of window covering can be prohibitively expensive however;

you can imitate the look by painting your own. The easiest way to achieve this look is by using a stencil and a can of spray paint to put one solid design on the blinds. This can also work with vertical blinds as well.

Remember when decorating that shower curtains and window coverings are essential in defining the style of a room. The more design elements you introduce to your window coverings, the more formal your room will seem. The simpler the look, the more casual your room will appear.
