Creative Window Coverings

The most dramatic and simple way to transform a room is to change out the window coverings. This can be done by purchasing new Venetian blinds or window shades. Possibly the most cost efficient way to accomplish this change is to change the curtains in the room.
A good place to look to achieve changes it to replace the current curtain rod with a new one. Some of the most beautiful and eye-catching window arrangements today are simply swaths of fabric draped over rods and hang from clips. Pinch clips can be formed into hoops, which act like clothespins and grip the fabric edges to allow you to be creative in the type of drape that you want to achieve. Some materials can be hemmed and some do not even need this added step. These clips then hang from curtain rods for a very snazzy or elegant look.
A popular look today is to purchase a fancy wrought iron rod, or even an aluminum rod and then take advantage of already hemmed bedding sheets to use as drapes. A romantic billowy feeling can be achieved with very little effort, along with easy of throwing them in the washer when dirty or changing them out when they become faded. Sewing drapes with any type of your favorite material can also be done. Many styles of fabric including satin, velvet or sheers, to name a few, may be used to create beautiful window coverings. Fabric stores also sell tassels, ribbons, and matching decorative ropes and pull-backs to add to the window’s final touch.
There are also window coverings and curtains available that do not need the use of a clip. These coverings come with loops of fabric that are easily slid along the curtain rod for hanging. These are available in many designs, fabrics, and varieties and can be purchased very inexpensively. Sewing your own curtains in this style is also very simple by either creating the entire curtain with loops, or purchasing a sheet or curtain and then adding the loops yourself. This can be accomplished by sewing by machine or by hand, but another fun way to be creative is to use buttons or velcro to make them easier to remove to clean along with adding additional decorative touches.
Specialty papers are also used to create your own unique window coverings. Rice paper is used due to it’s transparency which allows some light to come through. Some papers are amazingly beautiful and have added features such as glitter, threads, and/or leaves pressed into the actual paper fibers. you can save a lot of money over the store-bought ones that have a motif or design included. Painting your venetian blinds is another way to personalize them and add your personal touch to your decor. Using a stencil and some spray paint can create a number of varieties and styles with little expense or trouble. This technique can also be used to change and embellish roll down blinds also.
Realizing that window coverings will change the feel and style of your room is important to keep in mind. You can change a room from casual to formal by simply replacing the coverings on your windows. More fabric, pleats, and swags added to these coverings will increase the formality of a room. Ruffles and more simple treatments will dress down a room. This also applies to single sheers hung from curtain rods and roll blinds made from rice paper. No matter your choice of style, utilize a new window covering to create a quick and refreshing change for any room today.

While curtain rods can add great design features to your dcor you shouldn’t spend the vast majority of your decorating budget on your curtain rods.
When purchasing curtain rods, keep all of these things in mind and you should be able to buy nice curtain rods for your home that will have an impressive impact on how much you enjoy your space as well as how others view it.
