decorataive curtain rods, custom window binds, roller window blinds

There is no simpler or dramatic way to totally transform the look of a room than to change the window coverings. You can do this by buying new Venetian blinds or   window shades  but probably the cheapest way is to simply change the curtains.

One of the least expensive window coverings is achieved by simply removing the current curtain rod and replacing it with a new one. You can forget about buying rails and all that jazz. The simplest and most modern looking window coverings are simply swaths of fabric that hang from pinch clips. Pinch clips are hoops, which like clothespins, grip the edge of the fabric and allow you to hang any kind of drape or material (hemmed or unhemmed) from the curtain rods. One very popular look is to simply buy a very fancy wrought iron or aluminum rod and then hang white hemmed sheets from it that have been hemmed. You still get that romantic billowing look without the expense of spending money on prefabricated drapes. You can also sew your own drapes using any fabric that tickles your fancy, including eyelet, cotton, satin, velvet or sheers. Many fabric stores also sell ropes, tassels and ribbons that can be used as tiebacks for the curtains.

There are also curtains and  window coverings  available that don’t require any type of clip. These curtains come with fabric loops that easily slide along the curtain. These curtains, which come in a variety of designs and fabrics, are very inexpensive but you can also make your own by attaching your own loops to fabric. One handy feature is to have each fabric curtain loop fastened with buttons or Velcro to make the curtain easy to remove from the rod for washing.

You can also make your own window coverings out of specialty papers. These are transparent window blinds that are made from rice paper. Some of these papers are absolutely beautiful and feature details such as glitter, leaves or threads pressed right into mesh of the paper fibers. To make the curtain all you have to do is attach it to pinch clips. If you buy these in the store they are usually quite expensive especially if they are decorated with a motif pattern or a design as they are considered to be a bit haute couture. window shades blinds, fabric window blinds

Another way to personalize your decor is to paint your Venetian blinds. Simply take a stencil and spray-paint one solid design on the closed Venetian blinds. A stencil of a favorite motif or symbol and a can of spray-paint can also be used to embellish simple roll down blinds as well.

Always remember that your   window coverings  can help make the style of your room look more casual or more formal depending on what style you use. The more fabric, swags and pleats there are to your curtains, the more formal the room will look. The simpler your window treatment is, as would be the case with rice paper roll blinds or a single sheer hung from a curtain rod, the less formal the entire effect will be.

Creatiwindow shades and blinds, fabric window blindsng the right window treatment can either enhance or detract from a rooms’ beauty.  Since there are so many unique and custom window ideas available, it only makes sense to look around until you find the right one to suit you and your needs.  Being creative and installing a unique window treatment in your home or office will make a statement to others that will attract attention and positive feedback.  Whatever you choose, it should work together with your room to create a feeling of harmony.  Check out great sources for  blinds and window coverings online today!

First, analyze a few things.  What is this windows’ main use?  Is it decorative, or intended to let in light, or is it intended to ‘frame’ a scene outside?  Understanding the purpose of each window will be helpful in determing which window treatment will be best.  Once you are clear on the windows’ main purpose, it will be easier to determine the purpose of the window treatment.  For example, do you want to create privacy, or mainly control the lighting?  Is insulation your main purpose?  Or do you just want to add to the decor of the room?  Chances are that you will have a combination of purposes.  Determine what you need your window covering to do for you and then move to the next step.

Great  bargain window blinds and coverings  are available today!

Taking into account the window’s design is important .  What shape and design is it?  The other elements around the window will have an influence on how you want to dress it up.  Is the window itself a masterpiece (stained glass windows, beveled windows, and etched windows are some examples)?  Do you want to make the window the focal point in your room, or have it accent a piece of furniture or a location?

Understanding your tastes is another important factor.   Do you like a really classy room, or do casual surroundings make you happier?  Is your room a formal room, such as a dining room or living room, or is it a more casual room such as a family room or kitchen?  Do you like the contemporary look, retro, or possibly the coutry feel suits you best.  Without studying decorating styles, you can tell what you like and don’t like, and then formulate your decorating around your tastes.

Colors in a room make a huge difference.  Start with colors you like, and thunique window coverings, window shades and blindsen try adding a few complimentary colors to the mix.  Add in a contrasting color in smaller doses, and fill in with  shades of your favorite colors des of your favorite colors.  Using swatches to decide colors is a good idea, especially if you can get a piece big enough to actually drape around a window.  You can tell within a few days whether or not you will be able to live with your colors!

Next look at the maintenance of various window treatments.  Your lifestyle will be a factor in determining how much effort you are willing to put into keeping them clean and functioning.  Many window treatments are easy and quick to keep clean, while others require professional cleaning and repair.  This can be timely and costly, but in some instances, very worth it.  Knowing more about general maintenance of blinds, curtains, drapes, etc can be helpful in making your choice.

Shutters, blinds, shades, curtains, drapes or a mixture of all of these?  That is the next question to be answered.  Many windows have a combination of these that can compliment each other.  Deciding from there whether you want a wood look, a vinyl blind, possibly a cloth drape, or a metal mini blind will be your next step.  There are a great number of materials used today for window coverings, including bamboo, paper, and other things found in nature.  Faux wood blinds have become very popular since they look like wood, but have a much longer life expectancy, especially in heavy sunlight or high humidity areas.  Silks and denims are now found in window coverings, along with cottons and linens.  Reeds found in nature and natural grasses have found a way into our homes through windows!  There is such a  variety of styles and colors today.

Using the right materials and textures can greatly enhance a room.  Finding the right color combinations and deciding where you want your focal point to be is very important.  Using variations of your colors in different tones, tints or shades can add life and wake up a room.  Adding a pattern or using a solid color are important determinations to make in your rooms’ decor.  Hold your fabrics and colors up to natural and man-made lighting to see how they look.  Check again in full afternoon light or after dark to help you further.

Deciding whcolor mini blinds, fabric window blindsat hardware you want to accent your window covering is next.  Do you want it hidden, as a valance, etc, or do you want your curtain rods to have embelishments on the ends?  Do you want a shiny look, or a more weathered metal or even wood?  Painted or raw materials?  All of these are decisions that will add to your overall look of your finished window and the room.

Check with various sites on the correct way to measure your window before placing an order.  Find out if your choices can be self-installed or will need a professional.  Cruise the web for ideas and places to purchase what you want.  There are many   great places to get window coverings  today.

Putting your room together is challenging but very rewarding.  Being able to make choices that you like and can live with is a good beginning.  Being creative from there using your own colors and styles will help you make a place of pride and enjoyment for you for years to come!

Vertical blinds are at home in tall buildings, apartment buildings, older homes, and designer homes. These window blinds are best for windows that are wider than tall, but they also are a good fit for windows that are very tall. Vertical blinds also can add height to a window space.

Wide windows are difficult to dress with regular roller shades because when you get beyond a certain width, about 72 inches, you need to add a seam, support, or multiple shades to cover the width and avoid sagging. By using vertical blinds on those same wide windows, any sagging problem is eliminated, and the window will have added height from the window blinds extending above the window frame. Vertical blinds on windows are drawn to one side, and if mounted outside the frame, they allow full window visibility, and allow a complete view out the entire window. They are best for window walls, allowing the opening to be used.

vertical window blinds, cheap window blinds
Tall windows can be difficult to put regular window blinds in, because of the height and amount of slats that would be rolled up or down. Much better and easier to use are the vertical blinds. These blinds can add some width to the window frame if mounted outside, and the blind vanes would be drawn to one side. Vertical blinds provide the best privacy and light control on large or tall windows also.

In tall buildings, many architectural styles use huge windows, even walls that are glass. Vertical blinds are really the only proper solution when selecting window blinds, and with their straight lines add more features to what could be plain architecture. One problem may be the length of vanes, and there can be some side buckling on extra long vanes when lightweight materials are used, like vinyl. This can be overcome by using heavier materials, and fabric coverings. For extra long situations, fabric covered vertical blinds are best because they have more give and would not buckle.

Any time you have extra wide, or extra long vertical blinds, you are dealing with more size and more weight. Motorization is an answer to those potential problems. Mechanisms work easily and they operate smoothly. All motorization and pull systems and hanging parts are hidden behind a matching top head rail valance. With non-motorized vertical blinds, the operation of opening and closing and adjustments is done with a small wand hung to one side of the head rail.

Window blinds are wonderful for controlling light. By adjusting the angle of the vanes, you can allow full daylight into the room, close it off completely, or stop somewhere in between. You can bounce the lighting off nearby walls for a little multiplication of light in the room. For privacy, many of the adjustments provide plenty of privacy, and you do not have to have the blinds totally closed. Vertical blinds work better with side opening windows, and heavier blinds are less likely to blow around in the wind.

For darkening a room, the vertical blinds are good because they allow less light in between slats, or vanes, and it does not reflect off ceilings or floor coverings. This type of blind is good for room darkening, and will help insulate a room. If you have fabric covered blinds, they are the best at insulating, and wood blinds are also very dense and provide similar insulation effects when closed.

Vertical blinds are easy to clean, and do not collect dust like horizontal blinds would catch. Used in tall buildings, they take less time to keep dust free and clean. Overall, vertical blinds are at home in tall buildings, and anywhere window size or dimensions might be an issue.

blinds and window treatments, unique window coverings

Top down bottom up roman shades are a stylish solution to letting in light but still keep your privacy. Learn how to make top down bottom up roman shades plus how to convert your existing roman shades.

Roman shades are terrific for light control, privacy, and insulation. Not to mention they look very stylish on your window.

The most common way you see roman shades is they are installed at the top of your window… and when the pull cords are pulled… the bottom of the roman shade pleats up to let light in… and to allow you to see out. This also allows people to see in!

What if you wanted a roman shade on your window… you wanted the light in… you wanted to see out… but you still wanted privacy?
custom mini blinds, pleated mini blinds
That’s where the top down bottom up roman shade comes into play.

A top down bottom up roman shade is a roman shade that has 2 sets of lift cords. One set raises and lowers the bottom edge of the roman shade. And the other set of lift cords raises and lowers the top edge of the roman shade.

Here’s a perfect example of when you would use a top down bottom up roman shade. Say it’s a beautiful day outside. A perfect day to have the windows open. But the window you want open faces the street and you don’t want people to see in… but you still want light to shine in your room.

Raise the bpleated window blinds, buy window blindsottom of your roman shade a few inches to let the nice air in from the outside. Lower the top edge of the roman shade about a foot to let the sun in. And the rest of the roman shade provides privacy! Genius!

You can special order this style of Romans shade or you can make it yourself and save big bucks! In fact, you can even convert your existing roman shade into a top down bottom roman shade.

Let me explain how the installation would be so that you can have control raising and lowering either the bottom edge of your roman shade or the top edge of your roman shade.

You need 2 sets of roman shade hardware. So, if you are going to use a cord lock… you’ll need 2 cord locks. If you are planning on installing a roman shade bead chain clutch system, then you need 2 systems. If you plan on just using 2 cord cleats, then you need 2.
buy mini blinds, custom window blinds, unique window coverings,
Basically, you need one set of lift cords and hardware to operate the top edge of the roman shade and the other set of lift cords and hardware to operate the bottom edge of your roman shade.

      To operate

the bottom edge of your roman shade, you would install your roman shade normally. Nothing changes here. So, if you are installing a roman shade with a cord lock, you would still tie your lift cords to the bottom shade rings, thread the lift cords up through the rings and over to your cord lock.

Operating the top edge is the big difference. First, the top edge of your roman shade is no longer attached to the top dust board. You need to hem it neatly with a casing that will hold a sturdy rod. It can be a fiberglass rod, a steel rod… something strong that won’t bend in the center from the weight of the roman shade.

Install a second cord lock on the opposite side of the dust board. With new lift cords, tie a lift cor

d to each of the top rings. Thread the lift cords through the screw eyes and over to the second cord lock.

      And that’s it!

If you already have a roman shade that you want to convert into a top down bottom up roman shade… simply detach the top edge from the dust board. Hem the top edge and insert a rod into the new top casing. And then install and thread the second set of lift cords for the top edge operation.

A window just doesn’t look complete unless until it is affixed with a treatment such as drapes, curtains or blinds. Windows without these accessories look bare and cold, whereas windows with handsome treatments look charming and classy. A window with a special covering adds a finished look to any room and creates a finality that is pleasing to the eye.

French country window coverings are gorgeous treatments that are rich with color and texture. Window coverings of this sort are usually set in muted tones of purple, yellow, pink and green. The idea of the French country window dressing is that it reflects the colors and hues of the French countryside.

You will find many customized French window coverings that feature pictures of flowers and fruit. These are two aspects of country life that the French adore. Whether it be round, plump lemons or wispy and fragrant lilacs, the motifs of flora and fruit are very common among French decor.

       window coverings for french doors
Intricate lace patterns are also common of French window blinds and coverings. The airy affects of these window coverings can create a feeling of peace and relaxation. White or ivory lace coverings give a feminine touch to any room and look great in rooms furnished sparsely with heavy wood pieces. The contrast of delicate lace and thick, dominant wood works well to create an aesthetic balance.

Most French window treatments utilize a set of thick curtains as well as a decorative valence. The valence adds an ornamental crown to the window and is a traditional way of dressing one’s windows. A set of window blinds can also be used, though they are not seen as frequently as the conventional, heavy drapes of French homes. Blinds run horizontally and while they protect against the sun, don’t offer a whole lot of decoration.

Another popular French theme you will find on window coverings is that of toile. Toile is a special design that usually features depictions of everyday life in small, repeated patterns. It has become an increasingly desired theme to use in children’s rooms over the past few years. Toile is often whimsical and childlike, lending a certain fanciful ambiance to any room.
